Euro 2012: New racism row

Officials from campaign group Football Against Racism in Europe claimed Gebre Selassie was subjected to racist insults as he went to take a corner during his side’s 4-1 defeat by Russia in the Polish city of Wroclaw on Friday.
“Our observer reported descriptions of that nature and it was directed at the Czech Republic’s only black player,” Fare executive director Piara Powar said. “We are trying to get evidence, but it’s not always possible to capture it on film.”
Powar also confirmed a section of fans displayed a far-right “Russian Empire” flag during the game, which was further marred by clashes between Russia fans and stadium officials. Four stewards were taken to hospital.
Italy and Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli has also been subjected to racist abuse, after Italian neo-Nazis attacked his midweek visit to Auschwitz.
The organisation Stormfront – which is linked to the Klu Kux Klan – abused Balotelli by stating “you are black, Jewish and you should play for Israel” on their website.
